First Step Towards Decision Modeling

Have you noticed a new element in our BPMN palette on the left? We’ve just added the Business Rule Task. “A Business Rule Task provides a mechanism for the Process to provide input to a Business Rules Engine and to get the output of calculations that the Business Rules Engine might provide” says the BPMN specification.

One of the conclusions of the Decision Camp we attended in Luxembourg back in September is that the DMN (Decision Model and Notation) standard is becoming the most used tools for decision modeling, as BPMN is for process modeling. The Business Rule Task is the conjunction between the two standards. When a process requires a decision, the Business Rule Task invokes a DMN model and receives the outcome.

We are working on developing DMN features and on its seamless integration with the BPMN standard. Whether you embrace a process-centric or a decision-first approach, BeePMN is going to support you with its ease of use and all the editing facilitations you are already using.
